When the Team Should Work — But Doesn’t
Understanding energetic gaps through the lens of BG5 and Human Design
You’ve got the right people.
They’re experienced, capable, and genuinely care about what they do.
And yet… things don’t quite flow.
Deadlines slip.
Ideas stall.
One person is carrying too much, while another seems disconnected.
You can’t quite put your finger on it, but something just feels off.
Sound familiar?
These moments can be some of the most confusing and frustrating for leaders — because on the surface, nothing’s wrong. The team’s fine. Everyone’s trying. But underneath, something invisible is shaping the way energy moves (or doesn’t move) through the group.
Through the BG5 lens — the business application of Human Design — we call these energetic gaps.
What are energetic gaps?
Energetic gaps are the unseen spaces between what your team has and what it needs to function smoothly.
They’re not personality clashes or performance problems — they’re energetic imbalances that show up in very practical ways: missed deadlines, communication breakdowns, burnout, or lack of direction.
When you look at a team’s energetic make-up, these patterns start to make perfect sense.
Common energetic gaps in teams
Here are a few I see most often:
1. The reliability gap
Some teams are overflowing with creative and visionary energy — full of ideas, innovation, and passion — but missing the frequency that brings things to completion. They’re brilliant at starting projects, but not so great at finishing them.
2. The oversight gap
Other teams have lots of people doing the work, but no one who naturally zooms out to see the bigger picture.
Without that “oversight” energy, they end up reacting instead of leading — busy, but not necessarily moving in the right direction.
3. The capacity gap
And sometimes, the team simply doesn’t have the energetic bandwidth for the amount of work it’s holding.
It’s not about effort or resilience — the infrastructure just isn’t built for the volume. This is where burnout, inconsistency and overwhelm start to creep in.
Seeing what’s really happening
Once you start to understand these patterns, everything changes.
You stop trying to “fix” people or push harder — and instead, you begin to see what the team actually needs energetically.
Sometimes the answer is as simple as:
Bringing in someone with the energy that’s missing.
Adjusting roles so people work more in alignment with their strengths.
Or consciously balancing the energy through awareness and team rituals.
The power of seeing your team energetically
This is the essence of my work with The Energetic Org Chart™ — mapping a team’s energy through the lens of Human Design and BG5 to reveal where energy flows, where it leaks, and where the true potential lies.
Because when a team’s energy aligns, everything else follows.
Communication smooths out.
Decisions get clearer.
And people feel seen for who they are, not just what they do.
You stop managing problems — and start leading from clarity.
Curious what’s really going on in your team’s energy field?
